Home to the four pilgrimages of Uttarakhand, Haridwar is the starting point for the journey to the sacred sources of Ganga and Yamuna rivers. As per a popular legend, Prince Bhagirath performed penance in the city to salvage the souls of his ancestors who had perished due to sage Kapil’s curse. Hindu pilgrims bathe in the sacred holy waters of Haridwar to pray for the salvation of their ancestors as in the tradition of Bhagirath.
